Sivaji!!! Chumma Adhuruthulla!!

For guys who read my previous post please forgive me for testing you temper. Just wanted to add some suspense in my First ever Post in a Blog.

I got the chance to watch the movie, Sivaji : The Boss , after a wait of gruelling 1 month after the release of the movie all over, the movie was slated to release on June 22 in the PVR cinemas in Lucknow(Lko) but didnt get released. On inquiring the officials, they told that they had some problem to sort out with the Producers of the movie before releasing the movie and also they said that the movie might not show up as well, but it was released a month later on July 13th.
I again went to watch the movie on sunday with a Telegu Friend of mine(who can understand Tamil pretty well), the scene at the theatre was 180 degrees contrary as
it was on saturday. There a long queue outside the audi to get in. This is the first time, i see people made to stand in queue to get into a audi in PVR Lko. After i entered the audi, i was amazed to see all the seats filled up, contrary to the saturday show in which the occupancy was just 25%. Here in PVR Lko housefull shows are very rare for even Hindi movies. There was complete silence and then the Superstar Graphic flased on the screen and the atmosphere changed drastically, there were hootings and whistles all around. At last i was happy to get the ambience of watching a Rajini movie which i thought i would'nt experience in Lko.

The movie was a wholesome entertainer with the usual Rajini stuffs to fulfill the needs of diehard Rajini Fans. Rajini costumes are very stylish (courtesy Manish Malhotra) and also Rajini looks a decade younger. The Rajini sports the Billa type Hairstyle in the first half of the movie and the usual rajini hairsyle in the second half when he transforms into Boss. Both suits him, but the latter suits him the best.

Vivek appears as a sidekick to Rajini is found sharing screenspace with rajini most of the time. The comedy in the movie is good and rajini has proved once again that he can handle comedy as well. Especially, Livingston's "Lakalakalaka" scene brings roof down. Also the scene where Vivek lashes the young actors who wants to become superstar is a gem of a scene.

The first half moves in a normal pace with humour and songs placed at right intervals. The Ballelakka song is a treat to watch. A typical shankar type of song like the azhagana raatchasi from Mudhalvan and Andankaakkaa from Anniyan. Nayantara has shed weight and is awesome. A Majestic set has been put up for the vaaji vaaji song and is passable. The Style song is new to Kollywood with the superimposing technique used in the song to make rajini whiter. The Fight in the music store is a typical rajini kinda fight and Rahman's Re-recording has provided damn gud support for the sequence.

The film changes to Top Gear just after the interval with the acceleration pedal pushed to the ground. Rajini becomes the BOSS in the second half and the body language, voice modulation and hair style is evidently differs from the first half to mark the change of attitude of shivaji. rajini has essayed the Grey character to perfection. The tea shop scene is an example.

The special mention in the second half is the Athiradi song which is mindblowing. Thalaiva!!!! Kalakkiteenga!!!! Probably the best ever song picturised over rajini. At the start of the song rajini comes Lying on a Bike with his face covered with a Hat and hits the brake and starts shooting off the Baddies. Thalaivaa!!!! ungallaala mattum thaan ithellaam panna mudiyum!!! The choreography is awesome in the song and Hats off to Thotta Tharani for the amazing set depicting the west. The full song comprises of desperado kinda Dons and this probably would be the first song where a Stunt Master (Peter Heine) choreographed a song rather than a Dancer.
Athiradi paatukkaagave padatthaa evvalu thadava venaa paakalaaam!!! pullarikka vachiduchu!!!

The Binny mill fight sequence and the car fight sequence in the Drive in theatre has been choreographed superbly. Hats Off Peter Heine... The High Budget of the film
is evident from the Car fight in which more than 20 cars has been crushed.. Also Helium Balloon Light is used for the sequence to depict moonlight..
The last 30 minutes are the spine chilling moments. Rajini as Mottai Boss is the Best getup of Rajini till date. One has to see the movie to experience the different rajini.

Shriya comes as Kutthu vilakku like seetha in the film and changes into silk smita in the songs(a rajini dialogue from movie uzhaipaali). shes gorgeous and pretty too.

Already the songs are the chartbusters and AR Rahman has saved his best for rajini. The BGM is one to be mentioned in the film. In the first half the sega fighta song comes as the BGM and in the second half the adhitradikaaran music aptly suits the tempo of the film and the attitude of the BOSS..

Shankar's touches are there here and there but it is a full n full rajini movie. Its not a shankar movie in which rajini is acting but a rajini movie directed by shankar.

KV Anand has handled the camera and has used the new 4K digital technology, first time to be used in an Indian Film.

Suman as the treacherous villain 'Aadhiseshan' has done a remarkable performance and hope to see him in tamil films to come.

As quoted in Behindwoods.com. 'No one does it like you do. No one does it half as good as you' . This is the most apt words to describe rajini the Demi-god and the superstar of not only south India but also the whole world.

I had just one disappointment that, this movie has every aspect of taking Tamil cinema to world audiences and to places where they think that Indian cinema is Bollywood and Bollywood is Indian Cinema, but as the subtitles were not there, the movie has reached only less non-Tamil people. In Lucknow, many of my non-Tamil speaking friends were eager and enquired me about the film but they backed out when they came to know that there were no subtitles. If the producers can add subtitles, then it would attract people of all languages as only rajini has the power to do so.

Superstar Losing his Stardom???

It was just the second day of the movie and it was a noon show. Although it was a Saturday, the theatre was not thronged with fans.

I was confused whether i was in a wrong place or was it another movie to be screened.

I rechecked the schedule at the Booking Office and got it confirmed that the movie schedule was right.

Has the charisma of the Superstar faded??

There were no mile long line outside the cinema hall to get a sight of the Superstar??

The movie started dot on time with the usual Superstar graphics flashing on the screen.

There was no whistles or hysteric noises around.

Only 25% of the theatre was filled. It was like watching the movie sitting in a graveyard amidst corpses sealed in coffins.

The year was not 2020 but 2007 and the movie was "Sivaji : The Boss" starring the great SuperStar "RAJINIKANTH".

PS: Hey guyz this was just a prelude for my review of the great movie and the place was not chennai rather, its Lucknow. I caught up with the movie the very next day that is Sunday and my experience will be followed in my next blog click here.
